John C. Polkinghorne Scientist Theologian A renowned scientist, Dr. John C. Polkinghorne held the physics chair at Cambridge University, England; until in 1983, he resigned this prestigious post to enter the Anglican priesthood. After theological studies, he served several parishes before returning to Cambridge as a chaplain and then as president of Queens College, retiring in 1996. He was knighted in 1997. He has written a series of important books on the relation of science and theology, published by Cambridge, Yale and others. Commanding the respect of scientists and theologians, he is in demand internationally as a speaker on this important subject. He and his wife Ruth have two sons and a daughter. |
